Every patient needs a GP referral to see one of our specialists.
For ACC cases
Please see information on this website (Information for GPs) regarding the ACC requirements including the need for a Case Manager, an ACC service code (MSDA1 or MSDA2) and a Purchase Order number raised by the Case Manager. We can not see ACC cases without these.
For referrals to General Paediatrics, Paediatric Nephrology and Genetics:
One of our Paediatricians will read the referral before any appointment is made. The parents/caregivers will then be called by our administrative staff to make the appointment after this has been done. This process ensures that the appropriate consultant is assigned to the child. The referring doctor will be contacted by our medical team if it is ascertained that the child should be seen elsewhere.
For all other SPECIALIST PAEDIATRIC referrals
Including: Gastroenterology, Endocrinology, Respiratory and Neurology
Parents are encouraged to call Auckland Medical Specialists once they know from their GP that their child needs an appointment, and who they need the appointment with. We can book the child in without the referral in the system but would like the referral as soon as possible. The consultants like to read the referrals well in advance of the appointment and if changes need to be made, these can be seen to immediately.
Referrals should be addressed to the Specialist the GP wants their patient to be seen by.
All our Paediatricians require a referral for each new patient. If the child is returning for a follow up consultation but has not been seen for a year or more, a new referral is required.
Once we have the referral in our system the patient can be added to a cancellation list if an earlier appointment becomes available.
If the child or parents are non-English speaking or they have trouble understanding English, please advise them to bring a translator with them or someone who can speak on their behalf. We do not provide translators at Auckland Medical Specialists.
